Game viewing at its best.
A stay at Mattikoko offers an exceptional safari experience. Enjoy exclusive game drives through wildlife-rich plains, guided by expert Maasai who bring the landscape to life with their deep knowledge and intuition.
Lemek Conservancy
Lemek Conservancy offers something special. It’s a 7600 hectare wilderness that sits within the Greater Maasai Mara ecosystem but offers a more exclusive and intimate experience. As a private conservancy, it limits vehicle numbers and works closely with local landowners, creating a quieter and more sustainable environment for both guests and wildlife. Lemek is where the best of the Mara meets the calm and privacy of a conservation-focused sanctuary.
Game Drives
You’ll enjoy daily game drives in Lemek. Expect sweeping plains dotted with elephants, large resident prides of lions, and frequent sightings of cheetahs and leopards. The conservancy’s open grasslands are ideal for spotting grazers such as giraffe, zebra, buffalo, and a variety of antelope, while hyena clans and jackals add to the drama of predator-prey interactions.
During Migration season, we can venture into the Maasai Mara National Park to witness the river crossings. It’s one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles, as thousands of wildebeest and zebra surge across the Mara River in a swirl of dust, tension, and raw survival.
Expert Maasai guides
All game drives at Mattikoko Safari Camp are led by expert Maasai guides, fully qualified and deeply rooted in the landscapes you’ll explore. Their knowledge of local wildlife, seasonal movements, and the hidden rhythms of the bush adds depth to every outing, turning each sighting into a richer story. With an intuitive understanding of animal behaviour and an ability to read the land with remarkable precision, they ensure safe, rewarding, and genuinely immersive safari experiences.
Amp Up Your Safari: Beyond the Daily Drives
While our daily game drives through the Lemek Conservancy deliver those intimate, pulse-racing encounters with the Mara’s wildlife right on our doorstep, we know some adventurers crave even more. How about full-day plunges into the Maasai Mara Reserve with thundering herds and perilous river crossings, off-road thrills like dawn balloon floats, foot safaris tracking fresh prints, or Maasai village immersions? Let’s craft your ultimate bush adventure.
The Great Migration
The Great Migration is one of the world’s most spectacular wildlife events, as over a million wildebeest, accompanied by vast herds of zebra and antelope, move in a continuous circular journey through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in search of fresh grazing. In the Maasai Mara, the migration is typically seen between July and October, when the herds cross the Mara River in dramatic scenes filled with tension and adrenaline. From Mattikoko, we can arrange full-day game drives into the Maasai Mara National Park to witness this phenomenon up close; you’ll simply need to cover the park entry fees.
Balloon Safaris & Other Activities
Beyond game drives, we can offer a range of additional activities to enrich your stay. Guests interested in a more intimate encounter with the bush can join guided walking safaris, which reveal the tracks, plants, sounds, and subtle details that are often missed from a vehicle, offering a completely different perspective on the ecosystem. For an unforgettable aerial viewpoint, we can also arrange hot-air balloon safaris at an additional cost – floating silently above the plains at sunrise, watching wildlife move across the landscape below, and ending with a bush breakfast on landing.
