Balloon Safaris over the Maasai Mara
A hot air balloon safari over the Maasai Mara is one of those experiences that is genuinely difficult to describe. Drifting silently above the plains at dawn, with wildlife moving below and the light just reaching the grass, it is unlike anything a game drive can offer.
The experience
Balloon flights over the Maasai Mara launch at dawn and last approximately one hour, drifting with the wind across the plains and rivers of the ecosystem. The views are spectacular. From above, the scale of the landscape becomes apparent in a way that is impossible to appreciate from the ground – the herds, the river systems, the expanse of the conservancies stretching toward the Tanzanian border.
Flights are followed by a champagne bush breakfast in the field.
Arranging a balloon safari
Balloon safaris over the Maasai Mara are operated by specialist providers and can be arranged in advance through Mattikoko. We’ll coordinate the transfer from camp to the launch site and make sure the timing works around your other game drives.
Balloon safaris are priced separately and are not included in the camp rate. We recommend booking in advance, particularly during peak migration season when spaces fill quickly.
