Walking safaris in Lemek Conservancy
The Maasai Mara looks completely different on foot. A walking safari slows everything down, and in doing so, opens up a layer of the bush that a vehicle simply cannot reach.
The walking safari experience
A walking safari takes you out into Lemek Conservancy on foot, guided by one of our other experienced Maasai guides. Away from the vehicle, your senses sharpen. You start to notice what you’d otherwise drive past; animal tracks pressed into the soil, the call of a bird that signals a predator nearby, the medicinal uses of a plant growing at the path’s edge. You’ll spot the smaller animals, take in the sounds of the savannah, and learn some Maasai bush skills. Walks are included in your stay and can be tailored to you or your group – we can adapt the length and pace – and they’re timed for the cooler parts of the day.
Maasai bush knowledge
Our guides have grown up in this landscape. Titimet was tracking animals alongside his father before he was in secondary school, learning to read the ground and the bush in ways that take a lifetime to acquire. On a walking safari, that knowledge becomes the experience. You’ll learn to identify animal tracks, understand territorial behaviour from the signs left behind, and see the conservancy through the eyes of someone who has known it all their life.
Walking in the company of a Maasai guide in Lemek is not a packaged experience. It is as close as most visitors will get to understanding how this land actually works.
