Welcoming photographer Tay Belcher to Mattikoko

Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome Tay Belcher to Mattikoko, a conservation photographer, Kenya native. It was a treat to host her, and we’re thrilled with the images she captured. Below is a glimpse of how she captured the Mattikoko experience. Thank you, Tay!

About Tay

Tay grew up in Kenya, between the coast and the bush. She began her career as a dive instructor before spending two years in Zimbabwe as a full-time conservation photographer. There, she taught wildlife photography and founded a photography club for underprivileged children, believing photography can inspire the next generation of conservationists. Back in Kenya, she now works as a freelance photographer specializing in wildlife, safari and interior photography, and as a guide on photographic safaris.

Game drives in Lemek

Tay joined our guests as we explored Lemek. “Every drive brought something special, from elephants and giraffes to incredible daily lion sightings,” Tay said in her Tripadvisor review of her stay. She also commented on the exclusivity of being in a private conservancy: “Being in a conservancy gives it a wonderful sense of space and tranquillity – we explored for hours without feeling surrounded by other vehicles, making every wildlife encounter feel more natural.”

Our drives, of course, included picnics and sundowners.

Capturing our camp

We’re thankful for some great pictures of our camp and its setting. “The camp itself has a beautiful simplicity,” says Tay. “The rooms are comfortable, always spotless, and have everything you need.”

Team Mattikoko

And of course, we couldn’t let Tay leave before she documented our team, which she did beautifully. “What really sets Mattikoko apart is the people,” Tay said in her review. “There is a genuine respect for the land, wildlife, and Maasai culture that shines through. A special mention to Titi, the owner, whose passion for conservation, love for the Mara, wonderful sense of humour, and warm hospitality make the experience even more special.”
